Dining and wining in Krabi
Posted by admin on September 4th, 2008 filed in hospitalityThe cuisine in Southern Thailand is slightly different from the North-East, North and Central styles of preparing food. Here in the south there are much more curries, reflecting an Indian and Malaysian influence in the cultural traditions. In the majority of Krabi’s restaurants, meals include the mouth-watering massaman, an aromatic saffron-coloured curry with sweet potatoes and peanuts; the sour and hot kaeng som, fish deliciously prepared in a tamarind-laced broth; khanom jin, a the lightly-spiced noodle dish; and khao mok kai, Thailand’s Muslim version of a chicken biryani.
For those visitors who can’t eat spicy, Krabi also offers also an extensive selection of international restaurants in the tourist spots. Many of these western restaurants are owned and operated by expatriates, so the served cuisine is usually authentic and tasty. Pizzerias are popular and common, but in Krabi tourists will also find Chinese, Indian, Japanese, Danish, Swedish, French, Swiss and German cuisine, as well as English pub grub.
Seafood is another must try in Krabi. The beach areas feature several eateries with the ‘catch of the day’, which can be seen in front of the establishment displayed on ice. You’ll find all sorts of langoustines, fish; and juicy crabs; shellfish, including giant oysters; as well as lobsters and quid. They can be cooked in different sauces, or grilled and served with a delightful dipping sauce: a delicacy not to be missed!
