Krabi’s paradisiacal Maya Bay

In 1999 about 60 palm trees were planted on Maya Beach so it would look like the ultimate paradise on Earth which was needed as one of the main locations making the Hollywood feature ‘The Beach’, starring Leonardo DiCaprio. After completing the movie the beach returned to its authentic state as all trees were removed.

The famous beach is stunningly positioned in a fabulous bay surrounded by formations of steep limestone cliffs vertically rising out of the sparkling emerald green crystal clear waters. Set against an impressing natural backdrop of towering cliffs, bushes and sand dunes, the beach attracts many visitors that come to sit and relax in the cliffs’ shadow as the bushes not provide much protection against the tropical sun’s heat.

From the beach a trail provides access to the fabulous Loh Samah Bay which can be reached within less than a 10-minute walk. To get to the other side you’ll have to crawl through an opening in the rock.

As the territory belongs to a National Park, adults will have to pay a 200 baht fee and children 100 baht. There’s no fee for Thai nationals. Nearby Loh Samah Bay’s entrance amenities dedicated to the National Park’s staff have been constructed.

Visiting the Phi Phi Islands is on top of the activities list when staying on Phuket. Most of the visiting holidaymakers want to see paradisiacal Maya Bay at least once in their lifetime. Introductory guide to Phi Phi

Visiting Maya Bay will be an unforgettable travel experience!

This explains why now and then it can get really crowded between 10:00 and 14:00 due to boatloads of arriving day trippers coming from Krabi and Phuket. Some excellent snorkelling or unwinding on the renowned beach is what mainly keeps them busy.
