Some recommended Krabi activities

Ao Nang provides an outstanding base from which where to start your island-hopping adventure around Krabi province. Ao Nang itself is appealing but doesn’t really offer exceptional natural beauty. During low tide there are some good swimming options available. Ao Nang is a busy little destination and visitors can even find a McDonald’s establishment here along with several decent restaurants. However, asking for your dish to be prepared “Thai style” is necessary if you prefer proper spiciness levels.

The Thai cuisine I’ve sampled in Ao Nang seemed more authentic than at most other places. Both Tong Sai and Railay beach can easily be reached as well as beaches farther afield. Getting to paradisiacal Maya Bay by speed boat will be an unforgettable experience for most travellers. Maya Bay was used as the location for filming the Hollywood feature, “The Beach”, starring Leonardo DiCaprio.  Maya Bay is counted as one of our planet’s 10 most stunning beaches. Guide to Maya Bay

Spending one day sea-canoeing is definitely recommendable! I truly enjoyed the adventurous canoe trip to the Ao Thalane mangrove swamps. Several monkeys jumped on our canoe. I even spotted a cobra and giant monitor lizards while paddling up “The Thai Grand Canyon”. The canoe tour is really a must and is not too strenuous. There are half-day canoe tours available as well but these trips don’t include the wonderful little swimming beach and secret lagoons.
