Sustainable tourism in Krabi
Posted by admin on March 11th, 2010 filed in UncategorizedA recent event in Railay proved that many travel operators and tourists realize the importance of sustainable tourism. The ‘Phranang – Railay Sustainable Tourism Development Project’ was held in Rayavadee Resort with presentations, tours and exhibitions spanning over two days.
Over the last decade, Rayavadee Resort has been instrumental in developing a sustainable tourism model for the peninsula. The resort sets a commendable example by recycling waste and water. Other initiatives organised by the resort include planting mangrove seedlings and beach cleaning programmes.
During the event Krabi’s mayor, Khun Prasit Osatanond, installed a new anchoring system for longtail boats. Floating buoys, donated by Rayavadee Resort, will allow longtails to anchor without causing any further damage to the seabed and coral.
Organisers hope that the event will promote sustainable tourism and increase awareness amongst local businesses and communities of the importance of conserving the local nature and rich culture.
