Visiting the market is always a highlight of any trip to Thailand. The variety, vibrancy and atmosphere make it a truly enthralling experience.

Displays of fruit and vegetables ooze freshness. Little packages skillfully wrapped in banana leaves contain an assortment of sweet snacks and desserts. While smoke rises from sizzling barbequed aromatic chicken on bamboo skewers.

The day starts well before dawn in Krabi town. Vendors set up their stalls in the morning market from 04:00 and shoppers keen to get the best catch or cabbage make sure they arrive shortly after.

The large morning market is now accommodated in a huge concrete building, after moving from a side street in the town centre. The refrigerated meat sections are a lot more hygienic than the old wooden stalls.

In the evening two night markets attract many shoppers and hungry tourists. The market close to the river is great for a sit-down rice or noodle dish, while the City Market mainly caters to those who prefer to take-away.
