The annual ‘Krabi Andaman Festival’ (13th – 15th November) was once again a lively affair, involving the ever-appealing blend of activities, dining, shopping and entertainment.

The atmosphere was alight and locals’ spirits were high as they celebrated the coming of a new and hopefully, prosperous, season.

The first day’s activities involved net-casting, shrimp-catching and shell-collecting off the coast of Koh Klang Island. Back on dry land a clean-up incentive left Krabi’s key attractions, such as Ao Nang Beach, the Emerald Pool and Klong Muang Beach, rubbish-free.

Sunday’s events aimed to rehabilitate the area’s natural resources and promote eco-tourism. Kayak-bound volunteers planted new mangroves around Ao Thalane Bay and its network of canals, while other participants planted a miniature forest of saplings in Nong Talay.

After Krabi’s attractions were spruced up and its natural riches replenished, Monday was set aside for spiritual offerings and worship. A row of 319 longtail boats rested on the shore of Ao Nang Beach, while their tails were adorned with a rainbow of ribbons. This is the ritual of worshipping the Guardian Goddess of Boats, who is believed to keep the area’s fisherman safe while at sea.

To round it all off, food stalls representing the area’s best restaurants lined up along Nopparat Thara Beach selling an array of sumptuous snacks to enjoy while watching the fantastic cultural show.

The festival not only allowed tourists to experience Krabi’s unique natural and cultural beauty, but it invited them to give something back to the beautiful province which hosts its guests with so much grace.
