Krabi floods
Posted by beach climber on April 1st, 2011 filed in Uncategorized, beach life, holidays, hospitalityTourists visiting the south of Thailand may be feeling disappointed due to the endless rain. Apart from spoiling hard-earned beach time, the floods have caused many deaths and destruction across the region.
The main tourist centres weren’t affected by mass flooding; however, not far away, villages and homes were swept away and people were killed by lethal mudslides. While Ao Nang and Railay experienced flooding and electricity cuts, it was an area of Krabi Town which suffered the most when a dam collapsed and caused a flash flood.
Some homes were almost completely submerged and many people needed rescuing. On Tuesday night, a speed boat was operating along the main dual carriageway which leads to the airport, picking up people who were stranded.
The floods have now subsided, but many locals are now left with two feet of silt. The seas are also still very choppy, so be cautious when travelling by boat.
