Krabi climbing over-populated

While Krabi has become a climbing mecca for hordes of lean adrenaline junkies from all over the world, ever more people are choosing to explore different parts of the country to get their vertigo fix and leave the Andaman Coast behind.

Why? The crowds of Krabi climbers have become so swollen that it remains difficult for true fans of the pursuit to get any time on the rockface. Whereas you can spend a day’s climbing at the limestone karsts surrounding Chiang Mai – with similar terrain – and only see a handful of people during your time here.

Of course, you haven’t got the clear blue ocean as a backdrop when climbing in Chiang Mai. However, this extra facet of the ‘après-climb’ experience comes at a price – both the cost of accommodation and excursions and the sheer volume of holidaymakers coming to learn on the rocks. Krabi must find more routes and instructors to keep up with demand.
