Posted by beach climber on July 28th, 2011 filed in activities, attractionsEvery holidaymaker enjoys shopping in Thailand’s great markets to find cheap souvenirs, clothing, shoes and numerous other items. When visiting Krabi many opt to spend their days lazing on one of its stunning beaches while enjoying the scenery of the karsts that make Krabi so famous. This is why the Krabi night markets are such a hit and are a fantastic way to spend an evening and mingle with the locals.
There are three night markets in Krabi; all located in Krabi town. There is one along the riverfront on Kohnogkha Road and another close by on Maharat Soi 8. These two markets mainly sell food consisting of fresh fruit, Thai sweets and several fried meat options such as chicken, squid, pork and fish, many conveniently put on a stick for easy consumption. The third market is known as the ‘walking street’ and is the place to be to find bargain items to such as silk pillowcases, clothing and other souvenirs. It is open from 17:00 – 22:00 Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights
To get to the night markets one can easily get a songthaew into Krabi town, which will cost around 50 Baht per person. After 6pm the price will go up a little but not by much. These can be caught almost anywhere on the road running parallel to the sea.
